Coachella fire: 'Explosions' as blaze breaks out at shower block as festival-goers flee in their towels

A fire has broken out on the campsite grounds of Coachella on the first night of the music festival.

Footage posted online saw huge flames ripping through a shower block on the grounds of the festival, where thousands of people are staying for the weekend.

It is believed the fire started in the shower facilities after the first set of performers on Friday night.

Revellers described being woken up by an "explosion", before discovering the fire.

One festival goer said: "I was waiting in line trying to shower at Coachella and it exploded and caught fire".

Another attendee said: "Showers at Coachella campground caught on fire, someone [was] in their towel running out".

The festival sent an alert to festival goers to warn them of the fire, cautioning people to "stay away".

A shared image of the alert read: "ATTENTION: We have a fire in lot 4B at the showers. STAY AWAY FROM THIS AREA".

The California Fire Riverside Twitter account said it had attended the fire and confirmed there were no reported injuries.

The force said: "Fire contained. Mobile Shower Unit in Lot 8 Storage Area. Total two trailers involved. One damaged, one destroyed. No reported injuries to fire personnel or civilians. Fire crew will remain on scene for one hour for overhall. #Coachella."
