Coach Tom Izzo was out at the Detroit Golf Club today for the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He was a participating member of Bubba Watson’s team along with the Red Wings’ goalie Jimmy Howard.
“I’m glad I just didn’t maim anybody,” said Izzo, notoriously hard on his golf game. “It’s a lot different. Even though I’m in 70-80,000-seat arenas, it’s my players that are playing. I’m just making a fool out myself, they’re playing. Here, I’m playing and making a fool out of myself, so I got both problems.”
“I love basketball, so Tom is going to be a great treat to talk to,” team captain Bubba Watson said before the challenge. “Who doesn’t watch in March, you know? That’s when basketball gets real. So yeah, you always watch it and pull for your guys and people that you know.”
Izzo ended the day in style, sinking a 10-foot putt on the final hole.
