Coach Pete Carroll updates Seahawks injuries at start of OTAs

The Seattle Seahawks began phase three of their offseason workout program this week, which includes 10 days of organized team activities and one mandatory minicamp set for mid-June.

A number of Seattle’s players will miss the remainder of the workouts due to injuries – defensive end Ezekiel Ansah, defensive tackle Jarran Reed and safeties Delano Hill and Bradley McDougald.

Ansah, who underwent shoulder surgery after landing on the injured reserve last season, has a chance to be ready by the start of the regular season, although Carroll said he won’t know more until the start of training camp in July.

“He won’t be back in time for minicamp, but he’s moving well and he should be fine, but we just can’t rush that,” Carroll said of Reed, who also is recovering from surgery. “We have to take our time on that.”

Hill, who finished the season on the injured reserve with a hip injury, is gaining both weight and strength. “We got word just yesterday that he’s stepping up everything he’s doing, because he’s in a great spot right now,” Carroll said. “He won’t make it back for the minicamp, but he should be ready to go for camp.”

As for McDougald, he continues to recover from knee surgery. “He’s still rehabbing,” Carroll confirmed. “He was in last week. He’s going to be a camp guy too.”

Running back Chris Carson and defensive tackle Nazair Jones sat out Tuesday’s workout due to knee injuries but aren’t expected to miss significant time.

Cornerback Tre Flowers and quarterback Geno Smith were both absent due to personal reasons.
