Coach firm Acklams has confirmed it will carry out an investigation after one of its vehicles - carrying 79 Spice Girls fans to a concert - crashed on the M62 yesterday (Monday 3).
The coach suffered significant damage in the crash with a lorry between junction 27 and 26, and caused major tailbacks for several hours with the music fans left stranded and waiting for a replacement coach.
Now the Confederation of Passenger Transport - the body which represents coach companies - says Acklams is 'carrying out its own internal investigations' and is 'aware of a misunderstanding with the route'.
It will now speak to the driver and also try to determine the cause of the collision.
The delays meant the Spice Girls fans arrived at the gig three hours later than planned, and the crash caused widespread delays across the region during rush hour.
All traffic was held on the westbound carriageway of the motorway between junction 27 and 26 immediately after the crash.
One lane was then reopened after the damaged vehicles were moved to the hard shoulder.
But the damaged lorry remained in lane two and due to a spillage three lanes of the four-lane carriageway remained closed.
It caused major tailbacks of six miles and also affected surrounding routes.
