Coach belonging to company who helped families enjoy seaside trips targeted by yobs

Mindless yobs smashed the window of a coach as it passed through Newmains.

The Kevin’s Coaches bus was travelling along Westwood Road in the village at night when a side window was hit by a missile. Thankfully there were no passengers on board at the time.

Lanarkshire Live recently told how Kevin’s Coaches had provided buses at reduced cost to allow one of their drivers, big-hearted Gary Wilson, run cheap trips to the seaside and theme parks to help families in North Lanarkshire enjoy affordable summer days away.

The bus window cost almost £400 to have repaired and remained out of service until it was fixed.

Kevin Hailey who runs the Wishaw company told us: “ The way I look at it, the one good thing was that there weren’t any passengers onboard.

"So there were no injuries.

"This is the first time anything like this has happened. It’s weans, or teenagers, chucking stones but we have to foot the bill, and it cost £370.

"The coach was just driving along past the shops at the time.”

Video footage of the aftermath of the incident recorded on a mobile phone was shared on a Newmains community Facebook page.

It showed five youths running off from the scene, one of them wearing a Celtic home top.

PC Michael Steenson said: "Wishaw police are currently investigating an incident where a Kevin’s Coaches bus was targeted around 7.55pm on Monday, September 6.

“At this time several objects were thrown at the bus causing one of the windows to smash.

“Allegedly there have been a group of young persons involved dressed in black with one wearing a Celtic top.

“These kinds of incidents are very dangerous, throwing objects towards moving vehicles can startle drivers and could result in the vehicle crashing. Behaviour like this puts the safety and lives of those using the roads and footpaths at risk.

“Please be mindful of your actions, take pride in your community and come together to help us combat antisocial behaviour on our streets.”

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call police on 101. Information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 08000 555 111.
