Co Tyrone woman hoping homemade dog waste bag holders will reduce fouling in the area

A Moy woman has taken the initiative to reduce dog fouling in her local area after noticing the extent of the problem.

Jenny Millar posted on Moy Open Forum to spread the word about dog poo bag holders that she had created in a bid to reduce incidences of fouling.

Putting the holders on lampposts in popular parts of the town, Jenny is hoping it'll make people think twice before they leave their dog's waste behind.

Speaking to MyTyrone, Jenny told us about the fouling issue in Moy, and how she hopes her holders will make a difference.

She said: "I was just out and about and noticed there was poo everywhere and ones were complaining on the Facebook group too, so I said I'd make them up.

"I actually ordered the bags and then I thought they came with holders but they didn't so I just sewed some up and put them out.

"The response has been mostly good so far, a couple of people haven't been too happy but sure, you can't please everyone."

Jenny is hoping to put the holders up in "as many places as I can", including at the new Moy Riverside Walk that has recently opened to the public.

Anyone making use of the poo bags are also welcomed to refill them if they notice them running out.

"In the back of the holders there's an opening, but I've left three rolls of bags in each of the holders," she added, "So if people want to refill them they can."

Jenny, who has seven dogs, said the behaviour of some dog owners has shocked her and so she is hoping this latest addition to the area will reduce issues around fouling.

She said: "There's a couple of times I've been up the street and there's ones who are so brazen, they don't care, they just walk on and let the dog go. It's awful like.

"I'd hope people use them, and hopefully it'll work to reduce the problem."
