Co Tyrone teen's Silverstone win proves he's one for the future

Remember the name Jamie Lyons.

The 16-year-old motorcycle racer from Co Tyrone recently proved he is one for the future after claiming a big win at Silverstone.

Jamie finished first in Race One at the British Talent Cup at the end of August, which took place over the same weekend as the premier world championship British MotoGP event.

Racing his C&M MOTORS LTD/TOOLTEC Honda NSF250R Jamie took pole position and in Race One enjoyed a terrific wheel-to-wheel battle with Casey O’Gorman, beating him to the chequered flag by a mere +0.013 seconds.

This was a momentous win for Jamie and his family, with the teen having experienced many highs and lows in racing including being told by a surgeon that he would never race again due to a horrific Moto X injury.

In Race Two, Jamie was determined to clinch a double but was just beaten to the line by O’Gorman who exacted some revenge following his earlier runners-up spot.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Jamie said of his win: “Unbelievable, really.

"We all dreamt of a result like we had, I think it helped that I’ve ridden at Silverstone before so I had a base setting for the bike and we were able to hit the road running.

"I just suffer on the straights as you can see on TV but rode the wheels off the bike around the corners.

"I just wanted to win so badly to thank everyone who’s helped me over the years."
