A cold water swimmer from Co Tyrone has found a wedding ring lost by an unlucky groom in Lough Neagh just one week after his wedding.
Jane Lynch from Dungannon had heard about the loss of Mick Haddock’s ring near the Lough Neagh Discovery Centre on Boxing Day, and set out to recover it.
A regular swimmer and snorkeller in the area, Jane was shocked to find and recover the ring with relative ease.
“I wasn’t expecting to find it at all that particular day but the light was very good,” Jane said.
“The day before I had come home from the Lough after hearing that a ring had been lost and ordered fishing magnet kit and waterproof headlights.
“I just couldn’t believe it after being in a while, that I had seen a glimmer but thought to myself it couldn’t be.
“I tried to get it initially but my float didn’t let me get down far enough, so I took that off and my gloves because they were to thick.
“I just grabbed a handful of stones and sand and kept my hand shut really tight until I got to shore. Lo and behold there it was!”
Mick had been for a swim on Boxing Day but had come out to realise that his ring had come off.
Jane has garnered a reputation for locating items in the Lough, and said she was delighted to help him out on this occasion.
“It’s a bit of a longstanding joke that if you’ve lost anything tell Jane and she’ll have a look for you.
“I’ve pulled out a lot of strange and random things from the Lough, but I just thought it was terrible he has lost his ring so soon after getting married.
“It’s just a little bit of a good news story in the middle of all this craziness, and the likelihood of finding a ring in the Lough is pretty slim.”
