Co Tyrone places to take the kids for a fun day out

The summer months can seem long especially with young kids at home complaining they are bored just days into the school holidays.

But if you're local to the Tyrone area or fancy visiting the red hand county for a fun day out this summer, there are plenty of places to explore with your little ones.

From historic sites to stunning parks and adventure trails, we're sure there's something to suit all tastes here.

Here are just some of the fun things you can get up to with the family in Co Tyrone.

Ulster American Folk Park, Omagh

Families can embark on a journey back in time from the Old World of Ulster to the New World on the American frontier. You can meet and chat with an array of richly costumed characters on your way, often with traditional crafts to show, exciting tales to tell and unusual food to share. Booking is available online.

Annaginny Farm, Newmills

A family run farm located just outside Coalisland . Visit the animals at the Park Farm from the friendly donkey, horse, bouncing wallabies, fluffy alpacas, bearded dragons, llamas, owls, emus, rheas, rabbits, deer and more! Further details available here.

Peatlands Park, Dungannon

Enjoy scenic walks around this stunning woodland and duck ponds with plenty of open space for the kids to run, play and enjoy a picnic. It also boasts a new playpark complete with a range of equipment for all ages. Entry is free.

Old McDonald's Fun Farm, Kildress

Another family run farm situated in Kildress, just outside Cookstown. The whole family can enjoy a range of activities at the farm including feeding animals, petting corner, pedal tractor run and zip line. Then why not enjoy a picnic or a tasty treat from Old McDonald's very own ice-cream parlour. More details here.

Gortin Glen Forest Park

Situated just outside Omagh, as well as a number of scenic walks varying in length, offerings and facilities include a large destination playpark, trim trail, BBQ and picnic area, and toilets. The Forest Park can also be explored via a five-mile scenic drive which has a number of vista parks that vehicles can pull in to enjoy the magnificent scenery. This is a great way to enjoy the forest for those who are less mobile or on a rainy day! Free to enter.

Hill of the O'Neill and Ranfurly House, Dungannon

Stand on the Hill of The O’Neill and you are standing on one of the most important sites in the history of Ireland. Enjoy 360 degree panoramic views of seven counties of Ulster from the glass tower and explore the exhibition on Flight of The Earls and Plantation of Ulster. Also boasts beautiful picnic areas and cafe. More details here.

Dyan Mill Farm, Caledon

A new petting farm featuring a range of animals including rare breeds . Also on a site the farm has a huge play park and cafe. More details and booking available here.
