Co Tyrone mum in campaign to buy gifts and food for NI kids this Christmas

A Co Tyrone mum’s initiative to raise funds for food and gifts for children in need this Christmas has raised more than £67,000 in less than a week.

Dungannon’s Caroline O’Neill, who has more than 50,000 followers on her Digg Mama Instagram account, raised a six figure sum with her ‘Digg Deep for Kids’ campaign last year and is hoping to raise more this year.

The Northern Ireland public are being encouraged to get behind the campaign, which will see the funds go to local charities which distribute food and gifts across the region.

The initiative was launched on Sunday past, and Caroline said she has been ‘blown away’ by the kindness and generosity of those who have got involved.

“We are so proud to launch this year’s DIGG Deep for Kids,” Caroline said.

“This is a fundraising initiative that thousands of people across Northern Ireland have embraced and supported to help families in need at Christmas.

“Everyone wants to help in whatever way they can and the kindness and generosity of people with their time and gestures never fails to blow me away, and together, we are helping to make a difference to the lives of so many people.

“And I know in my heart that this year will be no different.”

Caroline, whose son Darragh shot to fame with his ‘I’m a busy man’ video last year, said a new cookbook and jumper will also be available to buy to support the campaign.

The annual campaign is in aid of the Simon Community, St Vincent de Paul and Cash for Kids.

“All proceeds will go towards buying gifts for children who otherwise might’ve woken up on Christmas morning without one, help put food on the table for families who potentially could have gone hungry over the festive season and will also help us heat the homes of families in need,” Caroline added.

“We can and we will make a difference.”
