Co Tyrone folk singer to release Christmas single ahead of album launch

A folk singer from Co Tyrone has fans getting into the festive spirit with her new song all about those who can’t make it home for Christmas.

Coming ahead of the launch of her new album ‘From the Hearthstone’, Greencastle singer Ciara Fox will release her Christmas number ‘Across the Miles’ on 19 November.

The talented singer recorded and released an EP earlier this year before deciding to press ahead with a full album of twelve tracks.

Ciara and local musician Matt McGlinn then co-wrote the festive tune in a collaborative effort, to get people to think about their loved ones in the lead up to Christmas.

“We were just going to record a song that everyone knows well, but then we thought why not write about something,” Ciara told MyTyrone.

“‘Across the Miles’ is basically about people that won’t be home for Christmas with restrictions from the pandemic still in place.

“I know places have started to open up but there are still people in the likes of Australia that won’t be able to get home.

“I have a brother in New York who won’t be at home again so it’s for him and the people that won’t be able to spend time with their loved ones.”

The new album is out on 3 December and Ciara will be launching it with a concert in the Strule Arts Centre in Omagh on 2 December.

“I’ve been working on it for around nine months, and since we launched the EP in July we thought let’s do an album.

“The four tracks from the EP will be on the album, along with eight new tracks people haven’t heard yet.

“I’m also supporting Niall Hanna in the Empire in Belfast the week after the launch so it’s just perfect.

“It’s a real privilege to be supporting the likes of Niall.”
