Co-op's 'not fit for purpose' store triggers plan to build new small supermarket

A plan has been submitted to build a new Co-op store on a North Wales industrial estate.

The retailer says its current shop on Chester Road, Pentre, in Flintshire, is "not fit for purpose" - with narrow aisles and a compromised sales floor layout.

This has seen plans go in for a new store on the nearby Queensferry Industrial Estate.

The new shop would create additional jobs with the chain.

Floods Properties and Development has submitted the proposals for a 4,000 square foot convenience store with an agreement in place with Co-op.

Agent Cadnant Planning said: "The proposal which is the subject of this application relates to the re-location of the existing Co-op to a nearby site which is better suited to the purpose.

"It will also facilitate the development of two B8 commercial units and therefore be beneficial in terms of job creation and economic development."

This is the latest North Wales proposal from the retailer with Business Live reporting last week about plans for the Red Dragon pub in Wrexham.
