Co-op's new supersized scotch egg has a crust made from salt and vinegar crisps

Co-op's famous sea salt and chardonnay wine vinegar crisps are favoured by salt-loving crisp fans all around the country, and it seems that now the crisps have become so popular that Co-op have decided to take them one step further...

The convenience food retailer has used their trademark Irresistible Sea Salt and Chardonnay Crisps to create the ultimate scotch egg - complete with a beautifully flavoursome crisp crumb coating.

Their brand new Sea Salt and Vinegar Chardonnay Scotch Egg is made with 100% British pork infused in Golden Hen Ale, a free range egg and then the star of the show: a crisp crumb coating.

Arriving in Co-op stores all around the nation this week, the unique scotch egg will set you back £1.50, but if it's anything like the brand's bestselling crisps, the indulgent crispy treat will surely be the crowning jewel of any picnic.

Although £1.50 may seem fairly hefty for one scotch egg, a bog-standard version of the summer classic from Waitrose will still set you back £1.39, with Sainsbury's Taste the Difference offering only a few pennies cheaper, at £1.30.

Fans of Co-op’s beautifully addictive and sour Irresistible Sea Salt and Chardonnay Crisps include Dolly Alderton, Ben Fogle and Bobby Norris, although there's no word yet on whether they're equally as fond of the crisps in scotch egg form.

Sam Griffiths, Co-op Food Developer, said: “Our Irresistible Sea Salt and Chardonnay Crisps has such a devoted following. The crisp’s strong and sharp taste is what make them stand head and shoulders above regular salt and vinegar crisps, they really pack a punch and leave you wanting more.

Our customers’ love the flavour profile which inspired us to develop new ranges that use the fan-favourite crisps as an ingredient. Scotch eggs are a summer British staple and we’re excited to offer this new very grown-up option to our customers and members.”
