Co-op launches gender neutral 'gingerbread person' and want public to suggest names

Thanks to Co-op Food, the gingerbread man as you know him is getting an image reboot.

The supermarket have been working on a make-over for the famous sweet treat, with plans to launch a gender neutral version.

Not only will the re-vamped 'gingerbread person' have a gender neutral outfit, but Co-op also want shoppers to come up with a name for them.

According to the Manchester Evening News , the retailer is putting the finishing touches to its design.

A tantalising glimpse of the gingerbead person shows they're wearing grey clothes, but that's about it for clues - for now.

People are being asked to suggest names for the new biscuit between April 10 and May 1.

Next, the Co-op Food team will put together a shortlist of their favourite suggestions before putting it to the public to name the winner.

Co-op explain on its website: "Our Food team is adding the final touches to a new Co-op gingerbread person, but they’ve yet to come up with a name.

"The plan is to give our new gingerbread fellow some seasonal costume refreshes - a distinctively Christmassy look for December and something rather spooky around Halloween for example.

"So they’ll need a name that works for any time of year.

"We also need to ensure that the name is gender neutral too.

"Join in to suggest a name. Our Food team will create a shortlist of the ones they think will best fit the bill and we’ll be back to ask you to vote for your favourite next month."
