Co-op issues urgent product recall as packs of kale could contain thistle

Co-op is urgently recalling packs of sliced kale over fears it could contain thistle, making it unsafe to eat.

The supermarket issued an urgent warning to customers , with the Food Standards Agency urging shoppers to return packs to their local.

A statement published by the FSA on August 4, 2020, reads: "Co-operative Food is recalling Co-op Sliced Curly Kale because packs may contain thistle (spiky weeds).

"The possible presence of thistle makes this product unsafe to eat."

Anyone who has bought Co-op Sliced Curly Kale, pack size 160g with a best before date between 4 and 11 August, 2020, should return it to their local branch.

Point of sale notices have also been displayed in all retail stores that are selling the product.

The company said: "Coop Sliced Curly Kale is being recalled due to the presence of spikey weeds. Return product to nearest Coop store for a refund Contact: 0800 0686 727, customer.careline@coop.co.uk. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

The Food Standards Agency added: "If you have bought any of the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund when next visiting for groceries and other essentials.

"Alternatively contact Co-operative Food careline on 0800 0686 727 or email customer.careline@coop.co.uk."
