Co-Op is now selling a vegan steak bake

Competition for the best vegan steak bake is under way as Co-Op is launching its own version of the savoury snack.

Priced at £1.50, the filling snack is made with soya mince in a rich ‘shroom gravy encased in puff pastry.

Co-Op's new vegan offering from its GRO range comes weeks after bakery giant Greggs launched its version.

Made with Quorn instead of beef, the pasty is the second vegan dish on the Greggs menu.

It follows the huge success of its vegan sausage roll, which went down well with both vegan and meat-eating customers.

Kevin Sargent, Senior Product Developer at Co-op, said: “We have worked hard to perfect the recipe and are really proud of our new vegan steak bake. We hope our customers and members love it as much as we do.

“GRO is a game-changer for our customers. Whether they are looking to reduce their meat consumption or are vegans, this new range appeals to all and will certainly deliver a delicious inspiration to what we eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just as a tasty snack.”

Co-Op's vegan steak bake is prepared fresh in stores, and is available to buy now.
