Co-op invests £2.3m in Birmingham supermarkets

Supermarket group Co-op has invested £2.3 million into its operations in Birmingham, supporting and creating 30 jobs in the city.

The chain has revamped its store in Harborne which is set to reopen today following a £1.5 million refit.

The retailer has overhauled the infrastructure of its petrol filling station located in the district’s High Street and extended the food store on site by almost one-third to approaching 3,000 sq ft to create a new-look shop.

It has also built a new supermarket on the Birmingham City University campus which will open on October 23, following a £800,000 investment which has created 12 new jobs.

Area manager Ben Bennett said: "We are delighted to have the opportunity to make such a significant investment in Birmingham, both stores have a great look and feel and we have worked to develop the range, choice, products and services locally that will create a really compelling offer to serve the community, conveniently.

"We are committed to connecting communities and making a difference locally and to operating at the heart of local life."
