Co Down service station incident probed as youth 'punched in face while sitting in car'

A Co Down assault has prompted a police appeal for witnesses.

The incident reportedly occurred in the Warrenpoint Road area of Newry yesterday afternoon, Thursday June 18.

Inspector Kelly Gibson said: “At around 12.20pm, it was reported that a male youth got out of a black Volvo car at a service station in the area and approached the passenger door of another car parked nearby.

"The youth then opened the car door and punched a male youth in the face sitting in the car. The youth received minor injuries and was left badly shaken. He did not require hospital treatment following this incident.

“Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident and I would appeal to anyone with any information about this incident to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 880 18/06/20.

"Information can also be reported online using the non-emergency reporting form via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at http://crimestoppers-uk.org/.
