Co Down road closed by 'overturned oil tanker'

An oil tanker has overturned on a Co Down road following a collision.

The incident happened on the A23 Ballygowan Road near Crossnacreevy just around 10am.

Police say the road is closed and have advised motorists to seek an alternative route.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Motorists are advised that the Ballygowan Road, Moneyreagh, is closed due to a road traffic collision.

"An oil tanker has overturned close to the junctions with the Gransha Road and Knockbracken Road.

"While recovery is underway, it is anticipated the road will be closed for some time. Please seek an alternative route, if possible."

Trafficwatch NI said the incident is at "Maryland cross roads".

They advised motorists of delays.

It is understood a recovery vehicle is at the scene.
