Co Down road closed after one-vehicle crash

A busy Co Down road is closed after a crash on Sunday morning.

The one-vehicle collision happened on the Castleward Road in Strangford.

Police are now advising motorists to avoid the area, if at all possible and to seek alternative routes for their journey.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Please seek alternative routes for your journey and drive with care as road conditions are treacherous due to snow and ice."

Meanwhile, a weather warning for snow and ice remains in place for parts of Northern Ireland today.

The yellow warning, issued by the Met Office no Saturday, is expected to last into Sunday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said temperatures will plummet to -7C.

What to expect:

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle path.
