Co Down restaurant named top Indian in NI at new awards ceremony

A Co Down restaurant has been named the top Indian in Northern Ireland at a new awards ceremony.

Bokhara in Bangor was recognised at the National Curry Awards (NCA) at a ceremony held in the House of Lords on Monday.

The awards were presented in three categories recognising outstanding chefs and successful restaurants and food businesses across the UK.

Winners at the National Curry Awards 2019 range from long-established family businesses to more recently launched ventures which, along with the winning chefs.

Talking about Bokhara, organisers said: "Its reputation is well-deserved too having scooped a number of top industry awards including Team Of The Year and Chef Of The Year at the Asian and Oriental Chef Awards 2017.

"Earlier this year they also made the final cut in the category Best Indian Establishment at The Food Awards Northern Ireland 2019. In terms of its culinary repertoire, the restaurant offers a broad selection of classic chicken, lamb and beef dishes inspired by the cuisine of the subcontinent and complemented by an array of side dishes featuring some less common menu items such as broccoli or courgette bhaji, and accompaniments such as ginger rice.

"The restaurant regularly hosts entertainment nights and showcases talent to keep guests amused, in addition to which Bokhara is actively involved in the community supporting grass roots football and a local cycling club through sponsorship."
