Ballynahinch Post Office worker Wendy Burke has been praised for going the extra mile for one of her vulnerable customers.
Edith Joyce McIlhone, received a collection card through the post to call into her local Post Office and collect an under-paid item which had been posted to her.
The 89-year-old is self-isolating due to the coronavirus pandemic, and therefore was unable to leave her home to collect and pay for the delivery.
The package was a gift sent from her grandson in Manchester, and the postage label had fallen off in transit, which led to the hold up.
But with the quick thinking of Wendy, the branch and area manager, Mrs McIllhone was reunited with her package labelled 'Nanny Joy'.
Wendy personally delivered the parcel and reunited Nanny Joy with the sentimental package along with a bunch of flowers to pick up her spirits during the current crisis.
Amanda Jones, Network Director at the Post Office, said: “Our postmasters do amazing work in their communities.
"They provide an essential service through their dedication and hard work and we are grateful that in such difficult times postmasters across the country are choosing to help some of those most vulnerable in our society by continuing to keep their branches open.
"It’s great to see that colleagues at Ballynahinch are going the extra mile for their community.”
