Co Down football club dedicates big cup final win to Max Wilson

A Co Down football club has dedicated a big trophy win to Max Wilson who passed away earlier this year.

Rathfriland Rangers won the Bob Radcliffe Cup on Boxing Day, beating Dungannon Swifts Under 20's on penalties.

It was a day of celebration for the club, and also an emotional moment for the family of former player Max who died suddenly in September .

Desribed as one of Rathfriland's "promising young stars", the 17-year-old was the third generation of his family to play for the side.

On Thursday the club made a special presentation to Max's grandfather Sammy Wilson following their Bob Radcliffe trophy success.

Rathfriland said on Facebook: "This one's for Max.

"There was an emotional moment after Rathfriland Rangers' victory in the Bob Radcliffe Cup final today when club skipper Jonny Roy and manager Aaron Black gave the trophy to Sammy Wilson, the grandfather of our gifted young player Max Wilson who died in September.
