Co Down couple transform kitchen in DIY lockdown project for just £70

A Co Down couple have shared how they have completely transformed their kitchen for just £70.

20-year-olds Chelsea Holland and Daniel Correia from Crossgar massively changed the look of their kitchen in two days with just the help of some paint, self adhesive film and plant decorations.

Chelsea told Be why they decided to do the interior DIY themselves and how well it has worked.

She said: "We decided to transform the kitchen as we thought it looked very dull and boring. We had an idea of what we wanted and after I looked into it in more detail we just went ahead and done it ourselves.

"We just thought to ourselves why not when we’re in lockdown. We may as well put the time to good use.

"I think it’s a brilliant way to save money doing it yourself as it’s easy to do - and why spend a fortune on a whole new kitchen when you can just make a few small changes and it looks so new and modern."

For the cupboards, Daniel and Chelsea took them off, washed them down with sugar soap and lightly sanded them before painting them with Frenchic Paint in the shade 'Swanky Pants'.

The work-tops are the originals, that have been completely changed to a gorgeous white marble by using self adhesive film from B&Q, costing just £10 a roll. The pair used a total of two rolls for the entire kitchen.

All decorations and appliances are from B&M and Asda, showing you the difference you can make on a budget.

Chelsea said this process has definitely changed the feel of the room - and that it's great to have a go yourself at transforming your home instead of spending a fortune.

She added: "It feels a lot more bigger and brighter than before and we’re just very happy with the way it has turned out.

"I just think before going out and spending a fortune on getting brand new work tops and cupboards, just try and decorate it yourself first.

"There are lots of pages on the internet for top tips and reassurance for people who are a bit nervous about doing it themselves like I was.

"A lot of people who we know have now started to do their kitchens up as they have seen how easy and quick it is to do."
