Co Down coffee shop offering kids meals for those who 'could do with a helping hand'

A Co Down coffee shop is offering free kids meals to those who need them.

Hannah and William Parke of Edge Coffee in Holywood posted on Facebook on Saturday afternoon to let the public know that the helping hand is there if anyone needs it due to the extra week off school.

They are doing this with the help of their chefs, James, Nicole and Chris.

The post said: "This is for those in need, those who have slipped through the net of the 'free school meals', those that haven’t qualified but could do with a helping hand and anyone that will struggle with the additional cost of food during this time off.

"You get a kids hot lunch to eat right away, soup (vegan) or Irish stew, a fruit pot, two pancakes to heat up at home, a jam, and a carton of juice. Completely free.

"Anyone that has a kid(s) and would like to pick up a pack, tell us the day before via messages or email hello@edge.coffee (where possible, we get life gets in the way sometimes and if you need something on short notice we will have extras) and we will give you a time to collect the next day between 11.30am and 1.30pm. That’s it.

"That simple. No questions asked. No kids should go hungry and no parents should feel worried about the additional lunch costs while we are in lockdown."

Hannah and William have thanked customers who are also kindly pitching in, along with Cafe 81 in Holywood and Oliver Jeffers and family.
