Co Derry wildlife photographer's delight at friendly fox photograph

A Co Derry wildlife photographer has shared a heart-warming photo of a friendly fox who decided to inspect his camera and equipment.

School groundsman and photographer Desmond Loughery from Limavady, Co Derry, shared how he saw the fox every day for six months before he earned the fox's trust.

Desmond became so friendly with the wild fox that it slept beside his camera and equipment, before Desmond woke it up to take the iconic photograph.

The 54-year-old snapped a well-timed photo showing the fox looking like it is taking a picture on Desmond's camera.

Desmond said: “The pictures were taken outside my town near a local beach. I spent every day with this wild fox for six months rain or sunshine until the fox began to trust me a bit.

“I had set my second camera down as I had one more with a longer lens on when she tested it to see if it was something to eat.

“But to my amazement she lay down behind the camera and fell asleep so I made a squeaking noise. When she lifted her head I took the snap which makes it look as if she was taking a picture.

“I am a freelance photographer but wildlife is my relax time. To be honest I will never get this experience again.

“I have been taking pictures now for 15 years I do not think this will ever happen again because when I found the den this little cub was always bold and I think we hit it off from day one, best wildlife day ever.”
