Co Derry man attacked with hammers and knives by masked gang

Seven masked men are reported to have left a Co Derry man in hospital after assaulting him with hammers and knives.

The attackers are said to have "forced entry" to a home in Ashgrove Park, Magherafelt on St Patrick's night.

Police are appealing for information following the aggravated burglary report.

Detective Sergeant Paula McGale said: "It was reported that a group of up to seven armed and masked males forced entry to the house at around 9.20pm on Tuesday evening, and a assaulted the male occupant with hammers and knives.

"The occupant was taken to hospital for his injuries where he remains this morning. His injuries are not life threatening.

"The males left the scene by getting into a shiny, dark coloured BMW following the attack.

"We are seeking to trace the movements and owner of this vehicle.

"I am appealing to anyone with any information to contact Detectives at Cookstown on 101 quoting reference number 1477 of 17/03/20."
