Co Derry coffee venue brings haunted stately home back to life

The easing of lockdown restrictions has seen the opening of many new local business ventures, particularly new coffee shops.

Some have appeared in mobile trucks, in the gardens of buildings and are taking advantage of popular walking venues.

Slothy Coffee, which opened in July of this year, chose an extremely unique setting for their business venture.

Situated inside Cumber House, a haunted stately home built in 1830 on the grounds of Claudy Country Park, Slothy Coffee have injected new life into the venue.

Fifi Garrett, owner of Slothy Coffee, spoke to MyDerry about this exciting new business.

She said: "I opened Slothy Coffee in July this year, and we are really enjoying delivering first class hospitality and great coffee in the most elegant surroundings.

"Come and enjoy our relaxing setting inside or outside the stunning Cumber House.

"After enjoying your coffee, why not venture into the woods of Cumber Park and playground.

"Lose yourself in daydreams that even Jane Austen would be jealous of!"

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating area and are treated to a free puppuccino upon their visit. Ideal for dog walkers making use of the popular walk in Claudy Country Park.

Slothy Coffee are taking advantage of their vast space and hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday September 24. Anyone interested in providing baked goods for this event can drop them off the Thursday evening (September 23) at the coffee shop.

Slothy Coffee has a huge community focus and hosted a Tots n Toast event, a meet up event for new mums, parents, grandparents or friends with free toast and juice provided for children.

Coming into the Autumn Slothy Coffee are launching their new Autumnal drinks range including Butter Toffee Latte, Mint Chocolate Chip Hot Chocolate, Iced Cinnamon Latte, Mint Mocha, Tales of the Black Forest Hot Chocolate and, of course, a Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Taking advantage of their spooky setting, Slothy Coffee will be running Halloween Harry Potter events at Halloween as part of Derry Halloween.

Slothy Coffee is open from Thursday to Sunday, serving cake and scones alongside their tea and coffee from 9.30am- 5pm.
