Co Armagh security alerts declared hoaxes

Two security alerts in Lurgan and Portadown have been declared as hoaxes.

Police were notified of "suspicious objects" at grounds of a former school on Cornakinnegar Road, Lurgan, and in the Hanover area of Portadown on Sunday.

PSNI officers and Army technical officers attended, diversions were put in place and the objects reported in both areas of Co Armagh were examined.

Chief Inspector Jonathan Wilson said: "We would like to thank the local communities for their patience. Keeping people safe is of paramount importance.

"We are also appealing to anyone with information that could assist our enquiries to call the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1058 of 09/02/20."

Details can also be passed to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Both alerts have now ended.
