A Co Antrim woman has made it to the final of a prestigious PETA competition having been selected from hundreds of other entrants across the UK and Ireland.
Carole Grant from Ballymena is one of 12 finalists in PETA's 2020 UK and Ireland's Most Beautiful Vegan Over 50 Competition.
The 60-year-old community carer and former public protection officer has been vegan for eight years and advocates for animals at every opportunity.
"With her huge heart and courageous spirit, Carole is a hero for animals through and through," says PETA Director Elisa Allen.
"All the finalists of PETA's Most Beautiful Vegan Over 50 Competition are setting an admirable example of compassion for younger generations to follow."
Explaining the contest title on their website, PETA said: "Are you beautiful? We don’t mean having great headshots or a certain body mass index. We’re looking for vegans who are compassionate, enthusiastic, dedicated, optimistic, smart, fun, encouraging, and uplifting – all these virtues are super-attractive."
The esteemed winner of the contest – a twist on PETA's popular Hottest Vegan competition – will receive an award-winning "Les Plantes" vegan tasting menu for two at top London restaurant Gauthier Soho.
This year's winner will be chosen based on several factors, including vote count, and will be announced by 11 September.
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that "animals are not ours to eat" is offering a free vegan starter kit, available here, full of recipes, tips, and more.
