Co Antrim singer invited to open Tom Grennan's Belfast gig next year after playing for Taylor Swift

A Co Antrim singer who played for Taylor Swift in a city centre bar last week has now been invited to open for one of his favourite musicians at their next Belfast concert.

Tiernán Heffron, 22, is a musician from Randalstown who has been playing music for the past seven years.

He had his dreams come true on Friday, September 10, when Taylor Swift walked into The Tipsy Bird bar and stayed for his full three-hour long set.

Now, Tiernán's had more of his dreams realised as musician Tom Grennan has asked him to support him at his next concert in Belfast on March 29, 2022, in the Ulster Hall.

On this morning's Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp, the young singer was asked who some of his other favourite musicians are, when he mentioned Tom Grennan.

Then, presenter Sonny Jay said: "Funny you should say Tom Grennan, because actually joining us on Zoom right now is Tom Grennan!"

Once he appeared, the English singer-songwriter shocked the up-and-coming star by saying: "I’m playing Belfast in 2022, and I’d love for you to open up the show and bless everybody with your voice and with your songs mate!"

Absolutely over the moon, the 22-year-old quickly accepted the offer and said thank you.

Speaking to Belfast Live yesterday, Tiernán revealed how he was surprised by Taylor Swift walking into the popular city centre bar.

He said: "I started my set about 9pm. The people coming in looked really funky, not your average kind of people. I thought there were probably a few big names in so I better do a good gig.

"Then as I was setting up and warming up the crowd, a woman come up to me and said, 'Just to let you know, Taylor Swift has just walked in.' I kind of laughed and looked up and it was her.

"My knees just went and my heart started beating fast but I wasn't nervous or panicking. I knew how potentially huge the moment was and said I would just treat her like every other person in the room, as she is just normal like everybody else. I just went for it."

Tune into Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp, weekdays from 6am – 10am across the UK.
