Co Antrim road closed as emergency services battle fire

Emergency services are currently at the scene of a blaze in Co Antrim.

Police have warned that the New Road in Glenarm village has been closed as a result and they are advising motorists to seek an alternative route this afternoon.

It is understood the fire is in the old fish factory.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "The New Road in Glenarm has been closed in both directions following a fire at a nearby property.

"Local diversions are in place."

Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service has scrambled three firefighting crews to the scene of the fire on New Road.

They say it involves a building on the road.

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service told Belfast Live: "We were called at 13.54 9 (Sunday, November 29).

"We have two appliances and one aerial in attendance at New Road."

They added that they received the call about the incident in "a building" and that they are "currently in attendance".

The building is reported to be derelict and police says it does not appear that any houses evacuated have been evacated.
