Co Antrim police arrest two over number of alleged overnight burglaries

Police probing a number of alleged burglaries in Co Antrim area overnight have arrested two males.

The pair, aged 17 and 22, are being questioned on suspicion of offences including burglary and attempted burglary.

The teenager also faces allegations of "aggravated vehicle taking, causing damage to the vehicle, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police".

Both remain in custody this afternoon.

Detective Sergeant Lyttle said: "The arrests follow reports of attempted burglaries and burglaries in a number of areas in Newtownabbey last night (Friday 17th April) and the early hours of this morning (Saturday 18th April), including in Abbeycroft Road, Glenville Road, Bleach Green Avenue, The Old Mill and O'Neill Road.

"A vehicle - a blue Seat Ibiza- was reported stolen from the Bleach Green Avenue area at around 1.30 am this morning.

"The vehicle was later recovered in the Dargan Road area of Newtownabbey.

"I want to appeal to anyone who saw any suspicious activity, or suspicious persons, in any of these areas between 10:30pm last night and 2:50am this morning to get in touch with us.

"I would urge anyone who may have captured dash cam footage they believe is of the car reported stolen to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 2441 of 17/04/20 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
