Co Antrim emergency services attend scene of accident 'involving a child'

Emergency services have attended the scene of an incident in Co Antrim believed to have involved a child.

Police and the Air Ambulance were on scene in Ballyclare and following assessment, the injured youngster was taken to hospital by road ambulance.

One local said the emergency services arrived at a housing development at Craighill Park off Ballyeaston Rd around midday on Saturday.

It is believed the child aged eight, who had been riding a "scrambler bike" was involved in an incident.

She said: "This is a pretty quiet residential area and it's popular with young families so there are plenty of kids about.

"We've been told a young boy was involved in some sort of accident while out on his bike so we were quite shocked when the Air Ambulance turned up.

"Thankfully we've been told now he was taken to hospital by a road ambulance which we assume means the injuries are not as severe as first thought.

A PSNI spokeswoman said police were called to assist the Air Ambulance as it prepared for take off from a grassed recreational area surrounded by homes.

There are no further details.
