Co Antrim councillor shares "deepest sympathies" following tragic crash

A Causeway Coast councillor has said his "deepest sympathies" are with the families of two people who have 'lost their lives' following a crash on Monday.

Police posted on social media at 4.48pm that: "Benvardin Road in Ballymoney was closed at Ballybogey Road and Castlecat Road junctions due to a serious two vehicle road traffic collision.

They added: "Please seek alternative routes."

A Northern Ireland Ambulance Service spokesperson said they scrambled following a call around 4pm.

They added: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 15:59 on Monday 16 November following reports of a 2 vehicle RTC on Benvardin Road, Ballymoney.

"NIAS dispatched 1 Rapid Response Paramedic, 2 Emergency Crews and an Ambulance Officer to the scene.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, 1 patient was taken to Causeway Hospital."

Causeway Coast UUP councillor Darry Wilson told Belfast Live: "It's an awful tragedy.

He said earlier: "Unfortunately the road traffic collision on the Benvardin Road has resulted in two people losing their lives.

"Can I pass on my deepest sympathies to all impacted by this tragedy."
