Co Antrim community pays tribute to "fun loving lad with a heart of pure gold" after sudden death

A community in Co Antrim has paid their respects to a popular young local man who was "the best boy ever" and "a pleasure to have known", after he passed away suddenly on Sunday.

Leo McBride, from Ballymoney, has been described as a "most amazing soul" and someone who had "a beautiful wee face" as tributes continue to pour in following his death on October 24.

The young man, 18, was a past pupil of Ballymoney High School.

Members of Drumaheagles Orange Hall were among those who passed on their condolences to his family in a social media post.

The tribute on their Facebook page said: "The Worshipful Master, Officers and Brethren of Drumaheagles LOL 1099 are deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Leo McBride, nephew of Bro Rodney Doherty and cousin of band members Sam and Lauren Ferris.

"The above lodge extend the sincerest condolences to the McBride/McCook family and extended family circle on their loss."

Glebe Rangers FC also took to social media to pay their respects.

"These posts don't get any harder than this.," they wrote.

"Sadly we yet again announce a death closely connected to the club with the heartbreaking loss of young Leo McBride, nephew of our Manager Jason Wilmont.

"No words are enough to describe how heartbreaking this news is and our thoughts are with Jason, Kelly-Ann, Alex, Sophie and the entire family circle at this very sad time."

Causeway Coast & Glens UUP Councillor Darryl Wilson said it was "a very, very dark day for our town and the entire community".

He added: "My deepest sympathies to all impacted by the passing of this young man."

A funeral notice for Leo called him "a dearly loved son of Malcolm and Ashlea, dearest brother of Elis and a loving grandson, nephew and cousin".

It continued: "Service will be held at Ballymoney Cemetery on Wednesday at 12noon. House strictly private. Family flowers only please.

"Donations in lieu, if desired to MIND c/o James McMullan and Son, 22 High Street, Ballymoney, BT53 6AQ or online at mcmullanfunerals.com. Lovingly remembered."
