Co Antrim child with autism wows mum with world map knowledge learned on YouTube

Little Callum Cahoon spends his free time getting stuck into his favourite hobby - learning.

The five-year-old from Ballymena, who was recently diagnosed with Autism, has become "obsessed" with teaching himself new tricks, languages and now world flags.

And proud mum Sarah told Belfast Live that the youngster has become a high achiever in school.

She said: "Callum attends Ballykeel Primary School in Ballymena which is a mainstream school and is just doing so so well - he is in a really high reading group and seems to be flying, but still gets his one-to-one time.

"He loves to watch YouTube, but uses this to teach himself new things. So far, for a 5-year-old he's picked up some amazing things. He can count and do his times tables, he knows the alphabet in Spanish and can say it backwards too.

"But recently, he has taken a huge interest in flags of the countries across the world and picked these up so quickly through watching YouTube videos.

"I do help him along the way, but it's funny, if I get anything wrong, he doesn't be best pleased with me. He's such a character and I am just so, so proud of him."

And after cracking the map of the world, brain box Callum has now set his sights on learning logos - which should be no bother to him!

"I can't put into words, he just loves learning, it's his favourite thing to do and now that he knows the flags and his Spanish, he's going onto logos - we never know what he's going to go on to next. He is awesome!" Sarah added.
