CNN news anchor slated after reporting from Edinburgh instead of Glasgow for COP26

A CNN news anchor is facing backlash after posting a photo from Edinburgh to Twitter ahead of the COP26 conference.

Wolf Blitzer, known for hosting The Situation Room, on CNN, has come to Scotland to report on the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26).

He announced his arrival on Twitter today.

Along with a photo of him set up with Edinburgh Castle in the background the broadcaster wrote: "I’m now reporting from Edinburgh in Scotland where 20,000 world leaders and delegates have gathered for the COP26 Climate Summit. COP, by the way, stands for “Conference of the Parties.” It’s the 26th time they have gathered to discuss and take action on this critical issue."

However, many fans were quick to comment, claiming he is in the wrong city.

COP26 is being held in Glasgow in the SECC where 140 and 25,000 delegates are meeting to discuss the ever warming planet and the climate emergency.

One person replied to Blitzer: "You are an exceptional news anchor, your hosting of the American elections since 2004 proves this, however I wish to say (without any disrespect) that you are not living up to your reputation. The summit is being held in Glasgow, 39 miles due west of your current location."

"You're in the wrong city, dude! (COP26 is in Glasgow, on the other side of the country. Distances are deceptive: from where you're sitting it's about a two hour drive, or 45 minutes by train then a 20 minute taxi ride.)" A second added.

Specsavers even hit back with a nod to their own slogan: "Should've gone to Glasgow."

A forth said: "I think everyone else is in Glasgow!!"

But others defended the journalist, reminding others that Joe Biden has flown into Edinburgh-although he is travelling directly to Glasgow to attend the summit this afternoon.

One pointed out: "To be fair to Wolf, he said he is reporting from Edinburgh (which he is) and that 20,000 delegates are in Scotland for COP which they are. Just clunky wording. He’s one of the good ones, no pile on needed."

"To all those on this thread pointing out the summit is in Glasgow: Biden made the same choice as Wolf. So did the Pope and the Queen until circumstances forced them to change. If you have the opportunity to visit Edinburgh, you just do." A second added.

And a third claimed: "It's all basically the same place in such a tiny country."

CNN do have cameras in Glasgow for COP26 and highlight that Edinburgh is still significant as President Joe Biden will be staying in the capital and arrived there this morning on Air Force One.

Travel disruption has hit Glasgow with roads being shut off and Edinburgh locals have been warned to expect disruption and road closures.
