CNN apologises after producer is heard joking about Donald Trump's plane crashing

CNN has apologised to Donald Trump after a producer was heard joking about his plane crashing in leaked off-air footage.

Footage filmed ahead of a live shoot and posted on YouTube showed reporter Suzanne Malveaux preparing for a broadcast. In the background, a woman’s voice is heard saying: “That means his plane’s crashed. No, I'm kidding.“

The comment was made as the crew waited for the President-elect’s plane to land.

“An unfortunate and inappropriate remark was made by one of our producers off camera yesterday,” a spokesperson for CNN told Business Insider. “We have apologised to the Trump transition team, and the producer has been disciplined.”

Mr Trump’s team has not commented. CNN did not respond to a request for comment from The Independent.
