CNN anchor in awkward Cop26 blunder said summit in Edinburgh instead of Glasgow

A CNN new anchor has been caught out in an awkward blunder after mistakenly claiming the COP26 summit was taking place in Edinburgh.

CNN's lead political anchor Wolf Blitzer posted on social media with a backdrop of Edinburgh Castle as he stated that delegates and world leaders had descended on the city.

But the COP26 is of course taking place in Glasgow.

In a tweet, the 73-year-old American journalist said: "I’m now reporting from Edinburgh in Scotland where 20,000 world leaders and delegates have gathered for the COP26 Climate Summit. COP, by the way, stands for “Conference of the Parties.”

"It’s the 26th time they have gathered to discuss and take action on this critical issue."

Wolf quickly came under fire on the social media platform as thousands of people corrected the blunder.

One said: "Reporting rather poorly, if you think COP26 is in Edinburgh. It's in Glasgow. A totally different city, in a totally different region of Scotland. On the other side of the country."

Another added: "It's like reporting from New York when the world leaders have gathered in Washington."

Specsavers even joined in on the banter as they replied to his tweet saying: "Should've gone to Glasgow."

Other users wished the journalist well and quickly forgave the mishap as they welcomed him to the city and urged him to enjoy the capital.
