CNG and PNG better options in view of skyrocketing fuel prices: Nellore Collector

Consumers worried over skyrocketing prices of petrol, diesel and LPG now have a viable economic alternative in the form of non-polluting and energy efficient Compressed Natural Gas(CNG) and Piped Natural Gas(PNG), said SPSR Nellore District Collector K.V. N. Chakradhar Babu.

300 vehicles convert into CNG mode

Speaking on the occasion of flagging off of Green Wheels CNG rally here on Wednesday, the Collector underscored the need for switching over to clean fuels and renewable forms of energy to combat global warming. The district had now made a small beginning with over 300 vehicles converting into CNG mode.

He said the once polluting Indian railways had matured into an energy efficient rail network in the world. Similarly, the road transport system also has to become energy efficient and end overdependence on conventional fuels.

Allaying fears over the non-availability of CNG and PNG in the district, he said the supply would be always more than the demand. “Two liquid and gas terminals are coming up in the district that has been endowed with two sea ports to usher in speedier development,” he said.

The district had a long way to go in adoption of energy-efficient fuels with a majority of over 5 lakh commercial vehicles still using conventional fuels, Deputy Road Transport Commissioner B. Chander observed while referring to subsidy available on the new generation vehicles including electric ones.

AG&P Pratham, a city gas distribution arm of the Singapore-headquartered AG&P Group and a leading company in the country, has created a network of CNG stations in the district and also laid pipeline for distribution of PNG to households, commercial businesses, and industries.
