The website for Chicago-based CNA Financial, one of the largest insurance companies in the country, was operational again Monday after a “sophisticated cybersecurity attack” it experienced last month.

“We have made significant progress toward restoring our operations in a safe and secure manner,” the company said in a statement posted to its webpage.

“This represents a major step forward in our restoration efforts and follows last week’s restoration of our enterprise email. Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to work diligently through this process,” the statement said.

On March 21, CNA determined it was the victim of a cybersecurity attack that caused a network disruption and impacted certain CNA systems, including corporate email.

CNA enlisted forensic experts to figure out the scope of the damage. If customer data was compromised, policyholders will be notified directly, the company said.
