CMS bolsters banking and finance team with senior appointment

Law firm CMS has appointed Michael Urquhart in the role of counsel to its banking and finance team in Edinburgh.

With more than 14 years of transactional experience, he specialises in advising funders and borrowers in relation to infrastructure and energy project financings, asset based lending and real estate financings.

Urquhart has acted for clients on complex infrastructure and energy projects, as well as project financing in the transport, education and healthcare sectors.

Prior to joining CMS, he was a legal director at DLA Piper and spent time on secondment at Barclays.

Gordon Hay, head of finance at CMS Scotland, comments: “Michael's appointment further strengthens our banking and finance team.

“He brings with him a proven track record in the field of project finance and his experience strengthens our ability to continue delivering high-quality advice to clients across the UK and internationally.”

Urquhart added: “The current focus on economic recovery, sustainable projects and achieving climate change goals will result in the infrastructure and clean energy sectors having an increasingly pivotal role in both private sector investment and government budgetary plans.

“I’m delighted to have joined the team at CMS at such an important time for the sectors - and look forward to supporting the firm build its globally recognised practise in these key sectors.”

Founded in 1999, CMS is a multi-jurisdictional organisation of law firms that offers full-service legal and tax advice.

It now had more than 70 offices in over 40 countries across the world, employing more than 4,800 lawyers.
