CMC curbs on sound systems in prayer halls

Chikkamagaluru City Municipal Council has decided to ban the use of sound systems in mosques, churches and prayer halls constructed illegally.

The council, in its budget presented on Saturday, made this announcement. Varasiddi Venugopal, president of the council, said the decision was taken based on complaints from the public and students from certain localities in the city.

“We have decided to ban the use of the sound system in churches, mosques and prayer halls that have come up without taking mandatory licence from the council and those constructed against court orders”, he said.
