MUMBAI: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aaditya Thackeray, who is the minister for tourism and environment in the state government, will attend the Mumbai Cricket Association's star-studded, grand felicitation function on October 29 at the Wankhede Stadium to honour batting greats Sunil Gavaskar and Dilip Vengsarkar and celebrate the centenary year of the late former India wicketkeeper Madhav Mantri.
On the occasion, the MCA will gift a hospitality box in the stadium to Gavaskar to honour the legendary opener on the occasion of 50 years of his international debut, and inaugurate a stand named after Vengsarkar at the Wankhede Stadium.
"I proposed in the MCA's Apex Council meeting today that along with Pawar Sahab (former ICC, BCCI and MCA chief Sharad Pawar), the MCA should invite the Maharashtra CM too. Accordingly, the MCA officials extended the invite to him. He and Aaditya have both kindly accepted the MCA's invite and consented to attend the function," Milind Narvekar, who's a PA to Uddhav Thackeray, Shiv Sena secretary and is the chairman of the Mumbai T20 league Governing Council, told TOI on Tuesday.
Both Uddhav and Pawar, who run the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA)- the ruling alliance in the state- will be the chief guests at the function, with Indian batting great Gundappa Viswanath being the guest of honour.
