BHUBANESWAR: CM Naveen Patnaik, who reached New Delhi on Saturday, attended a meeting of the national committee for the 75th anniversary of India’s independence headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Naveen said he highlighted the state’s considerable contribution to the country’s Independence struggle and spoke of the role Odisha-born Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose played in it. The chief minister also shared Odisha’s plans for the Independent India’s 75th anniversary celebrations.
Asked about his earlier demand for the inclusion of Ahimsa (non-violence) in the Preamble of the Constitution as a mark of tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, Naveen said no discussion was held in this regard.
The CM will also attend the governing council meeting of NITI Aayog on Sunday that will also be chaired by the Prime Minister. Naveen said he would reiterate Odisha’s demand for a special category status at the NITI Aayog meeting owing to the frequent occurrence of natural calamities in the state.
