CM MK Stalin makes surprise visit to Trichy Corporation office

TRICHY: Chief minister M K Stalin on Monday made a surprise visit to the Trichy Corporation office and and received petitions from the general public. Stalin also inquired about the status of the ongoing smart city project and the proposed integrated bus terminus (IBT) which is coming up in Panjapur on the outskirts of the city.

The chief minister arrived in Trichy on Monday afternoon on his way to the delta districts to inspect the ongoing desilting works in irrigation channels and waterbodies. During his brief stay, Stalin made the surprise visit to the corporation office. He also visited senior DMK orator Trichy Selvendran’s house in Woraiyur and inquired about his health.

Stalin left for Velankanni in Nagapattinam district in the evening via Thanjavur. On his way, the chief minister inspected the Beemanodai irrigation canal flowing through Vadapathi Kokeri village in Papanasam taluk where the desilting works were completed for about 4.5km at a cost of 14.5 lakh. The canal is irrigating around 315 acres in and around the Kokeri village, officials said. The government had earlier announced allocating 80 crore to carry out a special desilting project for 4,964.1km of canals and waterbodies in 10 districts in the Cauvery delta region.

The process has been taken up in Thanjavur district at cost of 21 crore to desilt a total of 1,356.4km irrigation canals and waterbodies. A total of 170 works have been under progress in the district and officials have been instructed to complete the works before Tuesday (May 31). State ministers K N Nehru, A V Velu, M R K Panneerselvam, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, special representative to Delhi A K S Vijayan, Mayiladuthurai MP S S Ramalingam, additional chief secretary, water resources department Sandeep Saxena, district collector Dinesh Ponraj Oliver accompanied the chief minister.

Meanwhile, in a Twitter post, chief minister appreciated R Ramani, a resident of Mayiladuthurai who made her daughter R Vijayalakshmi’s dream come true by making her an MBBS doctor with her meagre income earned by cutting and cleaning fish at the municipal fish market.
