Clydesdale groups awarded vital funding through community grants

Groups in Clydesdale are set to benefit from vital funding awarded in latest community grants.

Almost £2000 of funding was agreed by councillors which will go to five groups across the area.

Those set receive the grants include volunteers, musicians, befrienders, and the University of the Third Age (U3A) which offers a range of opportunities in older age, including digital inclusion (pictured).

South Lanarkshire Council held a meeting of the Clydesdale Area Committee last Tuesday, August 7 where the total of £1810 was confirmed and will now be distributed to different groups.

The full allocation is as follows: Friends of Volunteering in Clydesdale, based in Lanark will receive £250 for an outing and entrance fees; meanwhile the Biggar and District U3A will collect £200 for an outing.

The Lesmahagow group ISKCON (Scotland) Limited has been £600 to purchase equipment and materials as well as administration and publicity costs.

And the Lanark Amateur Musical Society will be helped with £250 for entrance fees.

Forth Friendship Group will also benefit from the community funding and will receive £510 for equipment and materials.

The purpose of the community grants scheme is to fund activities and projects which bring community benefit, and which bring those communities together to enjoy educational, recreational, leisure and other activities, or to improve the local environment.

Support can be provided for everything from outings and entrance fees, to admin and start-up costs and special events.

Applications are invited throughout the year with awards recommended for approval at each meeting of the relevant Area Committee.

More information on the criteria, activities that attract funding, and the application process are available on the council website.
