Clydesdale Bank customers furious as January wages not paid after banking system error

Furious Clydesdale Bank customers have been left without their wages after a banking system error.

Scots workers expecting to receive their January wage have been left short and struggling to get by.

The BACS system error is affecting Clydesdale , Yorkshire and Virgin Money customers across the whole of the UK, with thousands believed to be affected.

Sharon Ross, from Paisley , was expecting her husband's wages to be paid in this morning but was shocked to find out the money wasn't cleared.

The couple, who are currently on a break, have been forced to money the family were gifted at Christmas to get by.

Speaking to the Daily Record, she said: "My husband is a postie and hasn’t been paid because of this, neither have anyone else with a Clydesdale account. This is unacceptable especially at this time of year.

"We are on a wee break away in Girvan with the kids so looks like we will be using the Christmas money to get by. They said they were working on the issue but did not have a timeframe as to when it would be fixed."

Clydesdale Bank confirmed the error and are investigating reports 'as a priority' but could not confirm when the payments would be processed.

Other angry Scot customers took to social media to complain.

Dougie Telfer said: "Any idea what’s happening with wages being paid in?! Would be really good not to start the new year being evicted. Thanks."

Meanwhile, Nicola Nugent said: "I'm another of the 1000s affected this morning. No wages and the issue clearly lies with the bank when my colleagues with other banks have theirs as expected. Sort it out, I've four kids to feed."
