Clydesdale Bank and Virgin Money have been contacting customers by text message to warn them they will be unable to access certain account functions and features this weekend due to a service update taking place.
The banks have also made the announcement that telephone, internet and mobile banking services will be unavailable for nearly seven hours on Sunday, November 7, on their respective websites, which appears when a customer tries to log in to their internet banking account.
The planned update means customers will not be able to send or receive payments on telephone, internet or mobile banking in the early hours of Sunday morning.
However, the announcement also states that customers will still be able to use their debit card in shops, online and at ATMs during the system update.
The message to customers reads: “We’re updating our services. On Sunday, 7 November, we’ll be updating our telephone, internet and mobile banking services, so you won't be able to use these between 12:05am and 7:00am. However, you can still use your debit card in shops, online and at ATMs.”
The rebranding of Clydesdale Bank into Virgin Money is largely complete, the so-called “challenger” banking group recently announced.
Chief financial officer Clifford Abrahams said the process of removing the Clydesdale name and Yorkshire Bank south of the border was “pretty much done”.
High street branches across the country have been given new signs, the mobile banking app has been rebranded and customers have also seen the Virgin brand rolled out across the product portfolio online.
However, Mr Abrahams was unable to give any long-term guarantees about the future of Clydesdale banknotes, which will be the last visible trace of the historic Scottish brand following its integration under the Virgin umbrella.
